Make black/purple hummus in time for Halloween!

We'd never seen a black chickpea at the store, so of course we had to try growing these when we first discovered the variety. To our amazement, they were super easy to grow and produced a nice crop of long-storing, jet black chickpeas.

This nitrogen-fixing bush has beautiful foliage and attractive small flowers. It thrives in cool soil in the early season, and intercrops very well. Its leaves seem to have a remarkable tendency to be coated in dew at times when everything else in the garden is dry. This plant deserves to be grown more in the PNW.
