Also known as Zucchetta, Zucchino Rampicante.
Famous Italian heirloom squash, botanically classified as a winter squash but is commonly eaten as a summer squash similar to zucchini. However, it can be allowed to mature on the vine and stored like a winter squash for 3-6 months in the winter pantry. Vining habit, sprawls like most squashes, young fruits are a delight to watch as they mature and coil into various shapes that sometimes resemble trombones (hence the name).
Fruit can be worn around the neck like a gigantic edible necklace, really fun for kids. Super versatile plant that produces well throughout the summer and often produces later into the fall than other squashes that succumb to powdery mildew.
