Ah Northern Southern! This wonderful, low-profile bush southern cowpea has been selected for production in our northern climate by Carol Deppe, hence the seemingly oxymoronic name.

It sets a prolific amount of pods from striking yellow and white flowers that are visited by curious ants and other pollinators for the rich nectar. Small white seeds hold on the bush without shattering for a long time, making harvest a breeze. 

These cowpeas are delicious picked plump and green as "shelly" beans, or allow them to dry down fully until the seedpod is brown and then store them in the pantry.
