Bean, Tepary (Black Mitla)

Bean, Tepary (Black Mitla)

Annual. Phaseolus vulgaris. 30 seeds per packet.

Trailing bush/vine habit, great for intercropping with taller crops or as a sprawling nitrogen-fixing ground cover. Grows 2-4ft.

A drought-tolerant native bean grown by indigenous people in the American Southwest for thousands of years

Preferred for dry farming, this bean thrives on virtually no water input all year in the Pacific Northwest.

Cook and eat like any dried bean as the green beans are not palatable.

Harvest when pods are dry before fall rains.
