New Zealand Spinach
New Zealand Spinach
Annual. Tetragonia tetragonioides
15 seeds per packet.
A heat-loving spinach alternative, these oddly-sprawling plants grow from giant seeds that themselves are out-of-this-world. They produce an abundance of small, juicy leaves that are great eaten raw in salads.
While the older leaves can become bitter, when allowed to mature NZ spinach makes prolific seeds and often self-sows. Thus it is great for lazy gardeners who want greens, but don't want to deal with the nuisance of regular spinach bolting at the bat of an eye.
